Day two of the Juneteenth festivities featured a celebration on Main Street, followed by a parade and festival at the Tazewell County Fairgrounds. The Main Street event featured a community choir singing “Lift Every Voice and Sing” and poetry readings. Special guest speaker Honorable Judge Frederick Adams shared poignant words with those in attendance, with his inspiring message to “Go together, and go forward.”
Day three of the 2023 Juneteenth celebration, which is Sunday, June 18th, will be held at Nuckolls Hall at the Tazewell County Fairgrounds. It will feature community worship and reflection with Rev. Michael Bratton officiating. Then, on Monday, June 19th, the celebration moves back to Main Street for a ceremony at 5 p.m. at the “Standing Tall and Proud” mural, where winners of the creative writing contest will be announced.
