On March 27, 2023, the bridge replacement project begins for the bridge crossing Cavitt’s Creek on West Riverside Drive on Route 16.
Be alert for new traffic pattern and signals as the bridge is temporarily reduced to one lane. Lane width will be restricted to 10 feet during this time.

It has been determined, after much investigation by the Town of Tazewell, the following sole source items are to be considered for purchase:

1) A used 2011 Peterbilt 367 Dump Truck (Tandem, New 16’ Ox Steel Dump 2/42” Sides, Barn Gate, ISX12 Cummins 425 HP, Eaton 10 Speed, 4.11 Ratio, Air Trac, 12,350 FA, 40,000 RA, Diff Lock, 230” WB, 21’5” Bridge, Electric Tarp, Air/Two Way Tailgate, Pintle Hitch w/Air, 7 Prong Pole, P/S, 150 Gallon Aluminum Fuel Tank, A/C, AM/FM, Heated Mirrors, Cruise, Tilt/Tele Wheel, Power Passenger Window, Power Mirrors, Peep Window, 11R22.5 Tires on Aluminum Wheels Front and Steel Wheels Rear, Chrome Bumper, under 174,000 miles). The contractor for the purchase will be J&J Truck Sales, Inc., in Chatham, VA 24531. The total purchase amount is $107,900 FOB Town of Tazewell.

2) A used 7000B Asphalt Paver (Kubota turbocharged diesel 64hp 2400 rpm engine, 13 Gallon Fuel capacity, 40 Gallon Hydraulic, 7.5 Gallon Washdown tank, 6 ton Hydraulically Raiseable Hopper, 13’ Variable Paving Width, Including Manual Flight Screws and a 0” to 6” Paving Depth, Legend Propane Screed Variable up to 13’, Two 4’ Hydraulically Operated Plate Steel Gates, Two 9” Hydraulic .625” AR 4140 HT Steel Augers with Replaceable Flights, Dual 36” Feeding Conveyors, Independent Hydrostatic Steering, Electric HD Pump with One 15’ x .3125” Hose Washdown System, Hydraulic Oil Cooler, Variable Volume Hydraulic Pumps for Each Drive, Two 3” Rollers on Swivel Frame, 14” x 5’ Steel Track Size, 2.4 mph Paving Speed, 2.4 mph Travel Speed, Backup Alarm, LED Beacon Light, Training and Support Manuals). The contractor for the purchase will be Dotson Paving, Trucking Co., located in Falls Mills, VA 24613. The total purchase amount is $65,000 FOB Town of Tazewell.

We have received notice from VDOT that the Rt 16 W. Riverside Bridge will be closed to traffic on Friday, April 26, 2024, from 8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. for concrete work.

Motorists are advised to use one of these alternate routes:

Route 645 (Cavitts Road), which is 2.2 miles north of the bridge project OR

Route 631 (Baptist Valley Road) to access either Route 637 (Cochran Hollow Road) or access Route 639 (Earls Branch Road) to access US Route 19/460. Route 631 is 1.4 miles north of the bridge project.
