North Tazewell Business District Revitalization - Public Meeting

The Town of Tazewell is the recipient of a grant from Virginia’s Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD), which is being utilized for planning the revitalization of the North Tazewell industrial district. The goal of the planning grant is to apply for a $1.2 million Community Improvement Grant (CIG) through DHCD for downtown business district revitalization. A similar grant was used with enormous success in our Main Street revitalization efforts, and we have been working with DHCD and Cumberland Plateau closely over the past year to build the relationships needed to successfully apply for this grant opportunity.

Property owners within the North Tazewell industrial district area were previously invited to attend a meeting with our architectural team, Hill Studio, to discuss possible exterior building improvements, alternative uses, or business expansion that may be possible if we are awarded the CIG. CIG could provide funding for exterior improvements of approved buildings of up to $50,000 per façade.

After that initial meeting, Hill Studio utilized the feedback of property owners in attendance and our administrative team to develop an action plan for these improvements. We are now inviting you, along with the businesses, property owners, and residents, to join us for another meeting with Hill Studio to review their final recommendations to be used in our CIG application, and to discuss the next step in this process.

The meeting will be held on Thursday, August 28, 2025, at 4:30 p.m. at the Tazewell Train Station & Visitors Center located at 135 Railroad Avenue, North Tazewell, Virginia.

As demonstrated on our beautiful Main Street, this grant opportunity has the potential for an incredible impact on our community. With the support and feedback of the property owners, community leaders, & residents, we have no doubt this project will be equally successful.
