The Town of Tazewell and the Tazewell County Board of Supervisors held a dinner on February 4, 2014 at the Fuller Peery building, in honor of the emergency responders who responded to the New Year’s Eve fire on Main Street.
Tazewell County Board of Supervisor’s Chair, Charles Stacy thanked the responders for their tremendous efforts, as did Mayor Don Buchanan, Town Manager Todd Day, and Board of Supervisors and Emergency Services Committee Chair Mike Hymes.
The Board of Supervisers also recognized the responders during their meeting after the banquet, presenting them with plaques in honor of their services.
The annual Shop-With-a-Cop event was held on Saturday, December 14, 2013, at the Pounding Mill Walmart.
|On June 29, 2013, Steele Cookin’ performed as part of the Summer Concert Series in Tazewell.This band is centered around the guitar of Teddy Steele whose style reflects some of his many influences such as Billy Gibbons and Eric Clapton. Steele knows when to slow it down and when to burn the house down. He has been a well-known figure in the blues scene of Southwest Virginia and has also played The White Mountain Boogie and Blues Fest as well as the Cincinnati Blues fest with Deborah Coleman and Albert Cummings. Teddy is accompanied by vocalist Rebecca Tinsley whose style and influences are among Bonnie Raitt and Susan Tedeschi. Along with the talented rhythm section of George Bowen (sax, slide guitar, harmonica), Tom Pridgen (drums) and Ashley Steele (bass) you have a band that you will want to see time and time again.

Back of the Dragon Day was held on Saturday, June 1st, 2013 in Tazewell. The day included a bike show organized by the Iron Titans, and performances by Clinton Collins and the Creek Boys, Tuesday’s Gone, and Parmalee. The Monster Energy MX Stunt Team wowed the audience with their gravity defying stunts.

|After opening words from the Town Manager, Todd Day, and and remarks from Fire Chief Josh Roberts, 3rd District State Delegate Will Morefield, Tazewell Board of Supervisors member Mike Hymes, and 38th District State Senator Phillip Puckett, the Town Council members, along with Mac’s son Mayor Don Buchanan, presented Mac and his family with a plaque recognizing his service.|
