Taz Town App

The Town of Tazewell now has a mobile app for your cell phone. If you allow “Push Notifications” the Taz Town app will send you remiders on upcoming events. Welcome Jerry McReynolds & Congratulations Terry Mullins

The Town would like to welcome Jerry McReynolds to the Town Council. Mr. McReynolds will be filling the vacated term of Chris Blankenship. We would like to thank Chris Blankenship for his time served on the Council and we wish Jerry McReynolds the best of luck as he begins his term. We would also like to congratulate Terry Mullins on his new appointment as Vice Mayor.

Ornament Contest

The Executive Mansion, Virginia’s historic “first house” has announced that the theme for its 2015 Holiday Tree will be “Celebrating Virginia’s Localities.” Each locality is asked to submit one hand-crafted ornament that uniquely represents their community. The Town will be accepting handmade ornaments from the community through the end of August at Town Hall or by mail to Town of Tazewell 201 N Central Ave, Tazewell, VA 24651. Please include your name, address and phone number. Even though only one ornament will be chosen to represent the Town, all remaining entries will decorate the tree in the Town Council Chambers. Guidelines:

• No larger than 6”
• Artist/Artisan reside in Tazewell area
• Adult contest, children contests in the future
• Handmade ornaments only
• Should depict unique features of Tazewell; historic buildings, person, event, or nature.

The holiday tree will be on view to the public throughout the season and will be seen by thousands of visitors. This is an opportunity for our town to showcase our history and pride as a community. July 10th –July 12th Fiddlers Convention.
The Tazewell County Fiddlers Convention will be held at the Historic Crab Orchard Museum. For more information and admission prices please call 276-988-6755.

July 17th – The Big Dog 5k Challenge.
The run/walk will begin at the YMCA/Carilion Hospital parking lot at 6:00 pm. Registration forms are on the YMCA website ( For more information call the YMCA 979-0280.

July 23rd – Praise & Worship Night.
Starting our Main Street Moments-Tazewell Summer Fest weekend, there will be a Praise & Worship Night Thursday on Main Street beginning at 6:00 pm.

July 24th – Concert, Band of Oz.
On Friday evening at 7:00 pm The Band of Oz will be in concert at Tazewell High School. Food vendors will be set up also. Bring a chair or blanket and come out and enjoy the music.

July 25th – Cruise In & Music on Main.
Car line up will be at the old Ramey Ford location(910 E. Fincastle) at 3:45 pm. The Cruise In parade will begin at 4:30pm and travel to Main Street where they will line the streets. Music will begin at 7:00 pm featuring JC/BC. They play a variety of music from 60’s-70’s classic rock, Blues, 80’s rock, and 90’s alternative.

July 31st – August 8th Tazewell County Fair.
Located at the Tazewell County Fairground. There will be food vendors, carnival rides, a petting zoo, derbies, live music and more. For a day by day schedule please visit their website:

August 15th Trooper Andrew D Fox “727” 5K Memorial Run.
This event will start at 9 a.m. in Burkes Garden, Virginia. Open registration at 8 a.m. Walkers are welcome. Registration forms are available at Fisher & Company, Thompson Valley Market, and The Cave in the Tazewell, VA area. The proceeds from this event will be used to establish a Scholarship in Andrew’s memory at Tazewell High School where he was a 2003 graduate.

August 15th Cruise In & Music on Main.
Car line up will be at the old Ramey Ford location (910 E. Fincastle) at 3:45 pm. The Cruise In parade will begin at 4:30pm and travel to Main Street where they will line the streets. Music will begin at 7:00 pm featuring The Beach Nite Band. The variety of music they play includes soul, R&B, disco, blues, boogie and memorable oldies songs. Along with our versions of Carolina beach music favorites we mix in selected pop, party and even a few country music titles.

August 22nd Plum Creek Quilters Fall Craft Bazaar.
Held at Thompson Valley Community Center. Everyone is welcome to attend, enjoy the beautiful valley scenery while shopping for that perfect hand crafted gift to cherish and last a lifetime. Cake walks will be held from 11-12 for the young and the young at heart. August 29th Celebration of Arts.
Located at Between Friends new location of 213 W Main Street, Tazewell, VA. There will be local artist, musicians, craftsman, and authors. Come out and see what talent we have in our own community. For more information please call Between Friends 988-8235.

September 12th Bluefield VA Autumn Jamboree.
This 36th annual event is being held the second Saturday in September in downtown Bluefield, VA. Vendors set up with crafts, food, and fun. You will find plenty of activity and events for big and small.

September 19, 2015 (9:00 AM-6:00 PM) Cedar Bluff Heritage Festival.
Located in the historical Town of Cedar Bluff. There will be vendors, exhibitors, entertainment and more. You will find a little bit of something for everyone’s enjoyment.

September 19th Cruise In & Music on Main.
Car line up will be at the old Ramey Ford location (910 E. Fincastle) at 3:45 pm. The Cruise In parade will begin at 4:30pm and travel to Main Street where they will line the streets. Music will begin at 7:00 pm featuring Kids Our Age Band. This band is a three piece combo (guitar, keyboard drums) and offers a wide selection of live musical selections.

September 26th Burkes Garden Fall Festival.
9:00am-4:00pm. This annual event has been held since 1987. Come and celebrate our agricultural heritage and high quality products such as homemade food, home-grown produce, handmade crafts and hands-on farm demonstrations in the beautiful valley of Burke’s Garden. This festival will appeal to anyone who appreciates farm living and all it has to offer. There will be a variety of Vendors set up selling their products. Plus living history, live music, children’s activities, and more.
