Greg Layne
Throughout his career, Chief Layne has worked in several aspects of law enforcement. He spent several years working for the Department of Corrections. In the past, Greg served as a Deputy Sheriff and K-9 Handler for the Tazewell County Sheriff's Office. As a k-9 Handler Officer Layne worked with narcotics detection, gaining a lot of experience in drug interdiction. Chief Layne has taken several courses through the Department of Corrections, such as Emergency Response Group Training, Basic Correctional Officer Training, Transportation Vehicle Operations Training, and Ultron II Training. Other trainings in Law Enforcement include Search and Rescue, K-9 Search and Tracking, Court Security/Civil Process School, and K-9 Handlers School. He serves as the department's Self-Defense Instructor, ASP Instructor, and Pepper Spray Instructor. He also serves as an Instructor for Southwest Law Enforcement Academy.

Jeff white
Sergeant White Graduated from the Southwest
Law Enforcement Academy with the 78th Law Enforcement Basic School.He has been certified in Crisis Negotiation for First Responders, O.C. Spray,
Biohazard Body Fluid Recognition, and Alcohol Law Enforcement Specialist
Training.
Sergeant White is also a member of the Town
of Tazewell Fire Department. He has served with the Fire Department
for over 13 years, and is certified as a Firefighter I and has taken Haz-Mat
Awareness Training.

Harold Heatley
Sergeant Heatley is a
graduate of the Military Police Academy in Fort
McClellan, Al., class 01-89. He is certified with the .40 caliber Pistol, shotgun, and
O/C Pepper Spray.Harold has served 20 years in defense of our country in the United States Navy, with eight years of his service serving as a Military Police Officer. Officer Heatley has received 5 Navy Achievement Awards, 1 Navy Commendation, as well as a National Defense Medal for his service during Desert Shield/Storm.

Flora Sinkford
Mrs. Sinkford started working for the Town of Tazewell in 2001. She worked as accounts payable clerk and customer service. Before coming to the Town of Tazewell Mrs. Sinkford worked in a prominent physicians office for 35 yrs. She also has experience as a telemarketer for Turner vision part time. Throughout her prior careers she has recieved many awards for outstanding work.Aug. 2003 Mrs. Sinkford was promoted to the Tazewell Police Deptartment as Administrative Assistant/Dispatcher. She is certified through the national Emergency Communications Institute(Nationally),basic Dispatcher School(Southwest Law Enforcement Academy)-State.
Mrs. Sinkford has recieved her Clerk-Typist Certificate, A Career Studies in Law Enforcement & Certificate in Law Enforcement, Associate of Applied Science Degree in Administration of Justice and Specialization in Public service.
Accreditation and Grants
Shawn Hurd
Shawn Hurd began his career as Accreditation/Grants Manager with the Tazewell Police Department in 2006. He brings to the department 14 years of administrative clerical experience, including 8 years of law enforcement. Mr. Hurd is also the Safety Coordinator and Worker’s Compensation Clerk for the Town of Tazewell. He is an active member of TRIAD, a program that focuses on senior citizens and is a certified Accreditation Assessor for Virginia. He graduated from Southwest Virginia Community college with a Law Enforcement Certificate, a Career Studies Certificate and his AAS degree in Administration of Criminal Justice.
Mr. Hurd has received many awards throughout his career such as Outstanding Customer Service. He was 2005 Employee of the Year at the Tazewell County Sheriff’s Office.

Darren Jessee
Officer Jessee graduated in the 68th Basic School at Southwest Law Enforcement Academy while he was a deputy with the Russell County Sheriff's Office. He currently serves as an Instructor for the Academy. He is a certified Instructor in RADAR and Defensive Tactics. He is a trained School Resource Officer and DARE Instructor, and serves as one of the department's Hostage Negotiators.

Walter Barrett
Officer Walter Barrett has been a member of the Tazewell Police Department for over 20 years. Throughout his extensive experience in law enforcement Officer Barrett has attended several training courses such as DWI Detection and Field Sobriety School, Drug Enforcement Training, Terrorist Bombing Awareness, Fingerprint Analysis, Alcohol Countermeasures, Tactical Baton Training, Level I in Hazardous Materials Emergencies, and training in International Terrorism Recognition.
Recently he graduated from Southwest Virginia Community College with a Certificate in Law Enforcement.

Shannon Murphy
Officer Shannon Farthing has served the community for over 13 years, in several areas, including working at the Tazewell County Animal Shelter, and as a Special Police Officer for Tazewell County. Her trainings include Entry Level Animal Control, Concealed Weapons Training, Virginian Humane Investigator Training, Animal Euthanasia, and RADAR.

Jeffery Cole
Officer Cole has served the public for over 20 years. he has served in Emergency Services (Fire and EMS) and served in the U.S. Army. Throughout the years his training has included - Arson Detection, Explosion and Bomb scene investigation, Doppler Traffic RADAR, concealed weapons training, Emergency Management, EMT- Intermediate and EMT – Instructor.With the department he is a member of the Municipal Emergency Response Team.

Michell Infante
Officer Infante started her law enforcement
career with the Abingdon Police Department in March of 1996. She worked as
a patrol officer for a little over five years. She then transferred to the
Investigative Division where she spent
the remainder of her employment there as an Investigator until October 2005.
She investigated all crimes as a general investigator.
Officer Infante then moved back to Tazewell
County where she worked as a deputy for the Tazewell County Sheriff’s Office for
a little over two years before coming to work for the police department. While
at the Sheriff’s Office, Officer Infante was the Accreditation Manager and
successfully seen the Sheriff’s Office through there initial accreditation.
Officer Infante has attended and completed
several law enforcement trainings to include basic law enforcement to homicide
and sexual deficiency classes. She loves children and working with the public
and enjoys hearing from the citizens of the Town.

Sam Harmon
Officer
Samuel “Sam” Harmon came to the Tazewell Police Department from the State of
West Virginia, where he worked as both a municipal police officer and a
deputy sheriff.
Officer Harmon began his law enforcement career in 1989
when he joined the Welch Police Department in Welch, WV. He attended Basic
Police Officer training at the West Virginia State Police Academy in
Institute, WV, finishing second in his class academically.
In 1995, Officer Harmon
relocated to Jefferson County, WV, where he joined the Jefferson County
Sheriff’s Office. While employed at the sheriff’s office, Officer Harmon
worked in several capacities, beginning as a uniformed patrol deputy.
Later
that year, he was assigned to the Eastern Panhandle Drug & Violent Crimes
Task Force where he worked as a plain-clothes investigator, handling the
investigation of narcotics crimes and drug-related violent crimes in
Jefferson, Berkeley and Morgan Counties in the Eastern Panhandle of West
Virginia.

Eric McGuire
Officer McGuire
Graduated from the Southwest
Law Enforcement Academy with the 75th Law Enforcement Basic
School. He serves as the department's Domestic Violence Coordinator,
specializing in domestic situations, and as a Field Training Officer for the department, training
new officers in department policy and patrol procedures.
He has been certified in RADAR, Tactical Baton Training, O.C. Spray,
Biohazard Body Fluid Recognition, and Drug Interdiction Training. Officer McGuire also serves as one of the
department's Intoxilyzer Operators. This training certifies him to run the
Intoxilyzer 5000 which is used to determine the Blood Alcohol Level (BAC)
concentration in a persons blood after being arrested for driving under
the influence of alcohol.
Eric served as a Military Police Officer in the Army. During his four
years of service he was an Honor Graduate in his basic training, and he
received the Army Achievement Medal for outstanding military police work
in the field.

Bill Perry
Officer Perry graduated from the 80th Basic Law Enforcement School from Southwest Virginia Crimunal Justice Training Academy.
Officer Perry is a certified instructor in Defense Tactics, ASP baton and Red Cross First Aid, CPR, and AED. Officer Perry is also certified in Rope III Rescue, Vehicle Rescue, Confined Space Rescue, Hazardous Material Cleanup, and certified Fire Fighter.
Officer Perry has also graduated from Virginia's Academy for Staff Development and the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center for the Bureau of Prisons.
