    Throughout his career, Lieutenant Layne has worked in several aspects of law enforcement. He  spent several years working for the Department of Corrections. In the past Greg served as a Deputy Sheriff and K-9 Handler for the Tazewell County Sheriff's Office. As a k-9 Handler Officer Layne worked with narcotics detection, gaining a lot of experience in drug interdiction.

   Lieutenant  Layne has taken several courses through the Department of Corrections, such as Emergency Response Group Training, Basic Correctional Officer Training, Transportation Vehicle Operations Training, and Ultron II Training. Other trainings in Law Enforcement include Search and Rescue, K-9 Search and Tracking, Court Security/Civil Process School, and  K-9 Handlers School.

   He serves as the department's Self-Defense Instructor, ASP Instructor, and Pepper Spray Instructor. He also serves as an Instructor for Southwest Law Enforcement Academy.
