Auxiliary
Police
The
Town of
Auxiliary Police Unit is comprised of
non-paid volunteer citizens of the Town of
Auxiliary Police Officers have a unique opportunity to participate in the working relationship between our police officers and the community. Auxiliary Police also assist law enforcement officers with their daily duties and special events throughout Tazewell. Some of these duties are patrolling businesses, parking enforcement, patrolling the schools, fingerprinting, traffic enforcement and crowd control.
Training
is provided to the Auxiliary Police through Academy Instructors working in the
police department and through the

Members
are uniformed sworn police officers and are given the opportunity to attend
training at the police academy.

Applicant
Requirements:
| Must be at least 19 years
old | |
| Must be resident of | |
| Must be a college student
or posses a degree in Criminal Justice | |
| Must be a citizen of the | |
| Must possess a valid | |
| Must possess a high
school diploma or G.E.D. | |
| Must be of good moral
character without a felony conviction. (A misdemeanor conviction may also prevent acceptance.) | |
| Must submit to
fingerprinting | |
| Must consent to a
background investigation | |
| Must submit to a drug
test. |

Auxiliary Police are made up of residents from communities throughout
| Patrol in marked vehicles
helping to make their community a safer place to live | |
| Help prevent criminal
activity by being the "eyes and ears" of the Police Department. | |
| Direct traffic at parades
and special events. | |
| Serve during disasters
and other emergencies. |
The
Tazewell Police Department Auxiliary Police was established in August 2004 and
is composed of civic-minded residents of the community who work together to
improve
the level of safety and security in their community. The presence of the
Auxiliary Police, in uniform, on patrol in marked police units has been proven
to reduce vandalism and other crimes in the community.
