Christmas in Tazewell

December 5th, 2015 was a lively day in the Town of Tazewell! The Community Dinner kicked off the day at the American Legion building, serving free turkey and ham dinners to area residents.

Then, the festivities continued on with the annual Christmas Tree lighting. Volunteers served up hot chocolate and treats to the crowds, while Mayor Donald Buchanan welcomed everyone and introduced the musicians.

The parade then followed, featuring performances by not only the Tazewell High School Marching Band but many other area marching bands as well. It also included antique autos from the Music On Main and Cruise In group, along with antique tractors and horses. Tazewell Today organized the parade this year, and did a wonderful job in uniting the communities. As the Town of Tazewell is kicking off its Sesquicentennial Celebrations for 2016, a float representing Christmas Through the Years – 1866 to Tazewell Today was also included. Stay tuned for more exciting news about the events planned for this special celebration!

And, the finale for the day concluded at the Tazewell Train Station’s annual Christmas Open House. Christmas stories were read to the children around the tree, while Santa Claus made a surprise visit, passing out treat bags to all.
