Kid’s Fishing Day *RESCHEDULED DATE*
Oct 10 @ 9:00 am – 2:00 pm

Our goal is to introduce youngsters and their families to an appreciation and respect for the environment through the sport of fishing. Fishing can be an experience that is part of exploring and learning about the environment and as a result, kids appreciate it more. Another major benefit of taking kids fishing is that outdoor recreation strengthens the family as a unit and children as individuals. Fishing helps foster communication among families producing a special bond between parent and child. It also provides them with a fun enjoyable hobby that will last a lifetime. A recent survey on fishing found that if a person were not exposed to the sport by the time they were in their early teens, chances are they would never take up fishing. Many people learned to love fishing as a child and chances are there was probably one significant adult (father, mother, grandparent, aunt, uncle or neighbor) that taught you. If you have a love for the outdoors and would like to see that tradition passed to the next generation, this is a great opportunity! Take a kid fishing because the future will be in their hands someday. And there’s nothing more rewarding than seeing a youngster catch their first fish and knowing that just one moment can direct their life so profoundly.

Kid’s Fishing Day Rules

• Creek will be stocked with 125 trout the night before.

• Fishing will not start until the sound of the police car siren.

• Kids should bring their own poles.

• Parents are welcome to help their children fish but the child must participate in fishing and be involved in reeling in the fish.

Story: (Fictional)
In few years …
With Power usage at an all time high and resources shifting to new energies that aren’t ready for the full use of the people. The people of the Appalachians of the 2 Virginia’s have struggled for jobs and the health of it’s people.
After a few brutal winters things have hit a breaking point. Power plants keep getting shutdown for new power but the grids and resources aren’t fully ready for the winters of the areas. The Government hasn’t seemed to care until the coldest winter in over 100 years hits the nation. Power Grids fail, people die without water and power.
Months have passed and the Government is still behind on New Energies for the coming winter. Which could be worse than the year before. Waiting for the last minute in October there is a new energy act passed Fossil Fuels are not just to be regulated but is now government control and operated. 1000s lose jobs and the Appalachians are in ruin. The people can not take anymore Militias raise up, mines stay open but under company and the workers control.
The 2 Virginia’s agree declaring the resources of the state are it’s own and no government domestic or foreign can acquirer it. This is set the stage. National Guard and armed forces have traveled along the interstates and want to control some of the main shipping lanes and railroads. They feel Tazewell County is a key location and must be controlled.
Tazewell is again to be a battlefield since the Civil War. Will the people, the State or Federal Government control the area this battle could change the nation.

Trunk or Treat @ Main Street

The Town of Tazewell will host Trunk or Treat on Main Street this year on Halloween evening. We invite all businesses on Main Street and in the Tazewell area, all churches, youth groups, civic organizations, clubs, athletic and music groups, restaurants, schools and local individuals to join us in treating our children to a outrageously fun and safe Halloween. Call Between Friends for more information. If you are unable to set up but would like to participate you can bring candy or treats to Vickie Boothe to be distributed to the children. Just a reminder that pencils, fake tattoos, coupons etc can be great treats too. You can find the event on Facebook here.

We also plan to have pumpkin carving and painting and face painting in the afternoon on October 31 from 3:00-5:00. We could use help with paint and supplies. We may have more activities too. Also if you would like to volunteer please call 988-8235 or contact Jennifer Bourne.
Help us make this a “spooktacular” Halloween party for our children.
