A building permit is required by the Town of Tazewell as well as the County. Permits should be issued by the Town prior to the County. Customers must bring a plat of the project, and the fee for a permit is $20. For information on building permits, watch the Community Access Channel 14 or call 988-2501.
This channel is the community information channel on the local cable. This channel is used to provide citizens with general information about Tazewell and upcoming events which are planned throughout the area. To place an announcement on this channel bring your flyer or written information to the municipal offices or you may call 988-2501.
The Town Council meets on the second Tuesday of each month. Meetings begin at 7:30 p.m. unless a public hearing is planned prior to the meeting. If you have a concern and would like to appear before Town Council, please contact the Town Manager at 988-2501.

The municipal offices are open Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.
Based on zoning, there are limitations to the types of businesses allowed in Town. The initial fee for a business license is $20 with $0.15 per $100 gross receipts each year. Forms are mailed January of each year, and licenses are due March 1. For more information, Call 988-2502.
A resident of the Town is responsible for paying taxes to the Town of Tazewell as well as Tazewell County. Statement of taxes are mailed by November and due by December 5th. Real estate taxes are billed based on $0.26 per the $100, and the personal property taxes are billed based on $0.50 per the $100. Tax payments may be mailed or paid in person at the municipal office. A town resident must purchase a town decal - not a county decal. Any vehicle, motorcycle, or utility trailer registered in the Town is required to display a decal. Forms are mailed in April and due May 15th of each year. Decals are $10.00 per vehicle. If a form is not received, present registration and one may be obtained and completed at the municipal office. "CLEAN UP WEEK" - Each year the Town designates one week during April or May to be "clean up week". During this week, the Town sanitation crews will collect any special garbage free of charge, excluding any items the landfill will not allow such as paint, oil, and tires. |

Refuse must be secured in containers so it will not fall out, blow out, or be scattered by animals; and the containers should have handles for lifting. Receptacles should not weigh more than 65 pounds. Ashes, appliances, and lawn trimmings will be picked up free of charge; however, these items are considered to be a special pickup and prior notification must be given to the Town of Tazewell before the garbage collection day. Brush may be picked up for a $32.00 fee per load. All garbage should be sat out by 8:00 a.m. on the designated garbage day. Garbage pickup may be delayed on days of inclement weather. For information regarding garbage collection, please call 988-2504. The Town now has a cardboard recycling program for businesses with collection on Monday and additional days as necessary. Utility bills for water, sewer, and garbage are mailed on the first business day of each month. This bill is due in full by the last business day of the same month or a 1.5% penalty is applied. Charges are based on gallon consumption. Charges are as follows:
